Animal Tourism In India.

In numerous tourist destinations, the chances to view and interact with wild animals are easily available and extremely popular amongst tourists. These tourist attractions vary from location to location, with each country having its own laws and cultural vision towards animal welfare. Since a long time, animals are usually viewed as a livelihood of communities. They are sometimes a part of festivals, used as street entertainment, held in captivity or viewed in the wild. People are well-informed about animal welfare issues in recent times. Due to which animal tourism is improving with regards to the treatment of animals involved.

India is home to 99 National Parks and as many as 400 plus wildlife sanctuaries that act as habitats for various exotic flora and fauna. The graph of wildlife tourism is moving upward in recent times. In the past, wildlife tourism exhibited various challenges for government authorities. But in present times, the rise in wildlife tourism is helping the conservation initiative put into place to protect the flora and fauna. The rise in wildlife tourism in India in recent times is no miracle. There are various factors involved.

PRESENCE OF RARE AND ENDANGERED SPECIES

Various species that are endangered or almost on the brink of extinction inhabit the national parks, sanctuaries, and reserves in India. These species often attract major tourists during wildlife expeditions. Animals like Asiatic Lions, Bengal Tigers and One-horned Rhinoceros can be found in various locations like The Gir National Park, The Sunderban National Park and Kaziranga National Park respectively. They act as crowd pullers as people love wildlife holidays and they do not want to miss a glimpse of these animals.

BEAUTIFUL MULTITUDE OF FLORAL SPECIES

The amazing beauty of the well-maintained Indian sanctuaries and wildlife parks is another reason for the increase in wildlife tourism. The lush green forests not only act as a shed and habitat for various species of animals but also as tourist attractions, especially to botany enthusiasts. The national parks and sanctuaries are often acknowledged for showcasing a plethora of natural beauty.

Wildlife tours indirectly help conservation initiatives. The fares collected via the tours are in return utilized to maintain the sanctuaries and the animals. Along with monetary help, these tours also help promote awareness about flora and fauna amongst people. They help bring people closer to nature and teach them the importance of ecology and wildlife.

In the not so distant past, wildlife tourism projects were seen as dangers to several wildernesses. Clearly, with changed perceptions, sensitivity and elevated public opinions, greater cooperation between wildlife authorities and tourism experts is a distinct possibility. Its safe to say that wildlife tourism is a positive step towards conservation. What is more, the sheer diversity of habitats and cultures allows India to offer amazing choices to potential visitors. What remains to be seen is whether people from tourism as well as the wildlife sector can combine their efforts to the advantage of the environment, and celebrate nature.
